Cooperheat of Africa (Pty) Ltd., provides on site, on-stream leak repair services for process, steam, water, or air leaks. These repair services are made at temperatures ranging from cryogenic to 1700°F, and pressure from vacuum to 6000 Psig.

One of the most common causes of un-scheduled shut-downs in continuously running plants are leaks from pressurised systems often causing safety hazards and environmental issues. When no isolation can be made to carry out repairs, Cooperheat’s leak sealing division is fully equipped to perform on-line leak sealing on almost any item of plant regardless of pressure, temperature or line contents.

Cooperheat’s leak sealing technicians are highly trained and conversant with the many and diverse leak scenarios that are likely to occur on any plant at any time.

Leaks of all kinds are controlled and successfully sealed by Cooperheat technicians daily. Pressures ranging from vacuum to 3000psi and tempera-tures from sub-zero to 600 degrees C. leaks of steam, water, chemicals and hydrocarbons can be sealed on-line with no isolations being required.

Flange and valve cover joints (bonnets) with a gap of less than 6mm between the flanges or bonnet to valve body can be sealed using a wire lock peripheral seal. Leaks at pressure below 600psi can be sealed using ring adaptors that are fitted to the flange stud or bolt. Sealant injection is then carried out through the bolt/stud clearance hole and into the joint area where the injected compound forms a tough new joint around the existing leaking joint.

Drilling and tapping procedures address leaks where pressures exceed 600psi. Injection ports are drilled on the flange periphery.

The injection port allows sealant to be injected directly into the joint area via injection adaptors fitted to the injection ports. As the cavity between the flanges fills, the sealant travels into the bolt clearance holes. This procedure is repeated until each adaptor has been injected. Where flange gaps are over 6mm an insert ring clamp, either custom designed or off the shelf, is required to create a peripheral seal. Insert ring clamps incorporate injection ports thus eliminating the need to drill. Pipeline leaks such as tees, 90 and 45 degree bends, straight line faults, flange weld neck, pin holes, unions and valve body leaks can all be sealed using custom made enclosures. The enclosures are designed and fabricated using criteria found in the ASME boiler and pressure vessel
codes.

The grooved sealing system incorporated into all Cooperheat enclosures ensures that no sealant can be injected through the failed area of the pipe causing contamination of the process.

The groove design also minimises external forces, due to injection, on to the pipe outside diameter.
